Our Story

Freedom Labradors began with a simple belief: a well-trained dog can make a lasting difference in someone’s life.

Our service dog work originally involved puppies from other breeders and rescue dogs, with dogs donated to veterans through an organization. Although we had successful partnerships, some dogs did not have the health or temperament needed for service work. When a dog couldn’t continue, we found them a suitable home and began again.

Those experiences led us to develop our own breeding program—and Freedom Labradors was born.

With guidance from experienced breeders who became mentors, Chelsea developed a program focused on health, temperament and workability. We breed with the qualities needed for service and comfort work in mind.

Our breeding dogs undergo health screening that includes DNA testing for known inherited conditions covered by the testing panel, hip and elbow evaluations, and eye examinations. We use Orthopedic Foundation for Animals evaluations and records to help guide our breeding decisions.

Chelsea’s veterinary background brings valuable experience to our breeding and puppy-care program, including progesterone testing, artificial insemination, pregnancy ultrasound confirmation and care during whelping.

Today, Freedom Labradors partners with Övervaka Vänner to turn that foundation into lasting working partnerships for eligible veterans and first responders.
